Perinatal Mental Health and Early Parenting Support : Most of the time, these sessions will be in my office. If a birthing parent is on bedrest, or in the first days and weeks after a baby is born, I offer home-based therapy. Please see Postpartum Services for details.
Individual Therapy with an Adult: Individual therapy is offered via telehealth or is office-based. Usually I will meet with you alone. If there is a reason, or a treatment goal that involves work with a loved one, we will make the decision together whether or not to invite that person into our work.
Individual therapy with a person under 18: I find that with kids, office based work is most effective when possible so that is my preference. Teens often prefer telehealth, and I am very open to that if it seems more comfortable to them. We can decide together. If I am working with a person under 18 years of age I almost always meet with the client and her/his/their parents or guardian, or if it makes sense, the parents or guardian alone. The child's confidentiality in session is a really important part of my being able to establish rapport with them/him/her. As a parent myself, however, I appreciate that the need for you to communicate with your child's therapist feels important and is vital to success with that her/him/them.
Couples Therapy: Couples therapy is offered via telehealth or in office. My preference is to meet with folks in person at least in the beginning of couples work, and I always require both partners to be at the first session. After that session, I may meet with each individual once or twice (we will decide that together) but most of the time the three of us will meet. It is important to know that if I meet with individual members of a couple, when couples therapy is the treatment of choice, what we discuss individually is not confidential to the other partner (we will discuss this more when we meet).
Family Therapy: Office based. Family therapy is often lively and sometimes feels a bit chaotic. We will determine goals together, and it is my hope that everyone present (no matter how old or young) will be a part of the conversation. Occasionally, I may want to work for a while with a sub-group or dyad within the family.
Ecotherapy : It is widely known that time in nature can be very healing and nurturing. For interested clients, I provide nature-based or ecotherapy at nearby wildlife preserves or state parks. We will meet initially in the office and discuss if ecotherapy is something of interest.
